Weingut Egon Müller produces the most expensive and editorially significant white wines in Germany — single-vineyard Rieslings from the Scharzhofberg in the Saar tributary of the Mosel. The estate has been continuously family-owned since 1797. The vineyard is a single south-facing slate slope with ancient stone walls and centuries of viticultural history. Müller produces wine at the full Prädikatswein range: Kabinett, Spätlese, Auslese, BA (Beerenauslese), TBA (Trockenbeerenauslese), Eiswein. The Auslese and higher levels are among the most aromatic wines made anywhere — with extreme acid balance enabling them to age 50+ years easily. The TBA bottlings, made from individually picked botrytised berries in rare vintages, sometimes sell for €10,000+ per 750ml at auction. The estate also produces Scharzhof Riesling (a more accessible non-Scharzhofberg cuvée). The Müller family’s editorial discipline — minimal intervention, no new oak, traditional German vinification — has made the wines a reference for the entire fine Riesling category.

Riesling has higher acid than any other major white grape — Egon Müller’s residual-sugar wines (Spätlese, Auslese, BA, TBA) maintain dramatic acid-sugar balance and age remarkably well. Auslese is the entry point for serious Müller drinking; cellar 10-15 years from release.
