About Vosne-Romanée

Vosne-Romanée is editorially the most prestigious commune in Burgundy — home to the apex Pinot Noir vineyards. The commune contains five Grands Crus arranged along a narrow strip of limestone hillside: Romanée-Conti (a monopole, owned entirely by DRC), La Tâche (a monopole, also owned by DRC), Richebourg (multiple owners including DRC), Romanée-Saint-Vivant (multiple owners), and La Grande Rue (Domaine Lamarche monopole). Adjacent are seven Premier Crus including Aux Reignots, Aux Brulées, and Les Suchots. The commune’s combined annual production is tiny — the entire five Grand Cru output is roughly 50,000 bottles per year across all producers, making allocation extraordinarily restrictive. Wines from these vineyards are widely considered the most aromatic, complex, and ageable Pinot Noir produced anywhere. The Romanée-Conti vineyard itself (1.8 hectares) produces only about 4,800 bottles per year.

Editorial notes

Practical guidance

Vosne-Romanée Grand Cru wines require 15-25+ years cellaring from strong vintages. Counterfeit Burgundy is endemic; provenance verification is non-negotiable for these wines.
